Little helper

Last week, mama and dada had pretty bad colds.  Well, sinus infections, to be entirely truthful.  Anyway, Lil G was very helpful.  At one point, mama asked Lil G to go to the bathroom to get another box of Kleenex.  He was gone a loooooong time, so dada went to check on him.....

  Apparently, the box in the bathroom was quite low on tissues, so Lil G was taking one square of toilet paper at a time and refilling it!  How sweet is he?

Birthday the Third- Part 2

On Saturday, we celebrated 

Lil G's birthday with family and some friends that couldn't come to his CDM party.  The theme was Robots, per the birthday boy.  

Mama worked hard to try and make a lot of different robot themed items for the party.  We had "Nuts and Bolts" (Chex Mix), "Fuel Cells" (popcorn) and "Computer Chips" (potato chips.

Birthday the Third- Part 1

 On Friday (Lil G's actual birthday), we went to the CDM with a bunch of his friends, in order to celebrate.  He had a great time playing with all of his buddies and eating cupcakes.  Then, daddy came to join us for a special lunch!  It was a great time for everyone.

 Lil G was pretty surprised when dada showed up with Mac-n-cheese for lunch!

Happy birthday, Mr. Potato Head!

 Yesterday, we had a birthday party to celebrate Mr. Potato Head turning 60! We had the party through our mom's group and we cohosted it with another mama in the group.  The kids had a great time! 

 We did a lot of things to celebrate Mr. Potato Head's big day.  The kids played with "Potato Doh" (aka- homemade play dough, with potato head pieces), decorated "Potato Faces" (aka- cupcakes decorated with candy, in order to look like the big guy) and they even got a Potato Head craft to take home!  All the kids got along together great and Lil G had a blast.  He kept yelling, "Happy Birthday, Mr. Potato Head", on the way there, and on the way home.

Not sure how I feel about this....

The End of an Era

As most of you know, Lil G has some problems with his articulation of speech.  He has a tremendous vocabulary and is constantly learning new words- however, it is difficult to understand him when he talks.   This has caused a lot of frustration for the lil man and those around him.  Enter:  Speech therapy!

Lil G has been in speech therapy for quite some time now, and he is making great progress.  You can check out photos of one of his previous sessions here.

But, now that Lil G is almost three, it is time to transition him to a new part of life:  school-based therapy.  We had Lil G evaluated last week, and he (happily!) qualified for the Early Learning Program in our school district.  Next year, he is going to be in a classroom for kids that all have speech articulation (phonology) issues just like his!  He'll get therapy almost constantly for three hours, two days a week.  Until then, he'll be getting therapy two times a week from a new therapist, as he is "aging out" of services with his current speech pathologist.

This is bittersweet in our home.  It is so lovely to see the lil man growing and changing but it is sad to see his therapist, Ms. Kristin, leaving us.  Lil G has adored his time with Ms. Kristin, and he has improved dramatically.  We are so grateful for all the time and effort she has put into helping Lil G be understood by all around him. 

Lil G will be starting his new therapy services next Monday, so Wednesday was our last session with Ms. Kristin.  Lil G made her a card and got her a bag of goodies, to say "thank-you".  We are excited to embark on this new chapter in our lives but sad to say "goodbye".  We hope to still see her from time to time.

Of course, Lil G had to pose for his picture with Ms. Kristin, while sitting in his bucket.  Goofball.

Wordless Wednesday

Lil Helper

Lil G was asking over and over again on Saturday morning if I would play Candyland with him.  I told him that I would as soon as I finished making breakfast and asked him to get the game set up.  This is what I walked into.

Notice that he had extracted and lined up all the "jump ahead" cards.  He was so proud that everything was ready to go!  Only minor fixing required.

Maintenance Men

 Lil G was helping dada fix the dishwasher, after we discovered that the gel tabs we had been using had coated EVERYTHING in blue goo.  Apparently, a well-documented and common problem.  Anyway, we had to take the whole thing apart and clean it. 

Lil G informed dada that he needed more light and proceeded to find his puppy dog flashlight.  He is such a great helper.
